Civic Commons, a project of Code for America, is a marketplace for open innovation in government, currently tracking 580 apps in more than 170 cities. Think of it like Techcrunch but for government software, or a community-driven civic app store, with the goals of fostering "g2g" software reuse, propagating civic software innovation faster, and saving governments millions of tax dollars worldwide.
This session will dissect our build of the Marketplace, a Drupal 7 site, including what decisions seem sound in hindsight, and what we would have done differently if we were starting over today. We will also identify ideas and approaches that we think would be valuable for any other D7 site seeking to crowdsource large volumes of structured data.
